“1970 Dodge Challenger R/T vs 1969 Chevy Camaro SS 396. Pure Stock Muscle Car Drag Race (FAST, Factory Appearing Stock Tire – Factory Stock). First car is a 1970 Dodge Challenger RT. Other is a 1969 Chevrolet Camaro Super Sport 396. The Dodge Challenger RT has a 440 V8 (4bbl version), and the Chevy Camaro SS has the L78 396 V8. The Challenger R/T is rated 375 horsepower compared to the Camaro’s 375 horsepower. Both the Dodge Challenger RT and the Camaro Super Sport have 4-speed manual transmissions. They Challenger R/T and Camaro SS396 also have the same rear gears at 4.10. The Chevrolet Camaro Super Sport weighs-in (with driver) at 3590 pounds. The Dodge Challenger RT is coming in at 3856 pounds. There were 4889 L78 396 equipped Chevy Camaro SS cars produced in 1969. There were only 916 1970 Challenger R/Ts produced with the 440 Magnum and a 4-speed manual transmission. Original testing of the 1970 Challenger R/T (with an automatic transmission and 3.55 rear gear) showed a quarter mile of 14.54 sec @ 98 MPH. The Camaro SS396 L78 was tested by Super Chevy and found to run 14.16 sec @ 101.13 MPH. ”
