Looks like 2023 was not quite done with us yet. NASCAR legend Cale Yarborough passed away yesterday, on New Year’s Eve, at the age of 84. Cale Yarborough is a former American NASCAR driver who had a highly successful career in the sport. Born on March 27, 1939, in Timmonsville, South Carolina, Yarborough achieved numerous accomplishments during his racing career in the 1960s and 1970s. He won the NASCAR Cup Series championship three times consecutively from 1976 to 1978, driving for Junior Johnson. Yarborough is also known for being the first driver to qualify for the Daytona 500 at a speed exceeding 200 miles per hour in 1983. Beyond his success on the track, Yarborough is remembered as one of the iconic figures in NASCAR history, contributing to the popularity and growth of the sport during its formative years.
